MICHIANA  CALLIGRAPHY GUILD (Date: 9/2026) 

Well,  I am late to post these, but we had a very enjoyable MCG Annual Picnic in August.  All members were invited but it is difficult to join the fun when they live so far away.  However, we had more than just local members arrive in person again this year!  Chris and Denise join us from Michigan, Traci from Illinois, and Ginny from Florida who surprised us when she just walked through the door.  And for those who could not be present in person, we held the meeting portion as a hybrid meeting. 

Pat generously hosted our picnic at her house this year!  It was a rainy day but that did not bother any of us.  She had ample room for us to arrange dishes for lunch, eat all together and do make and take crafts.  The demonstrations and supplies came from Chris, Rose, and Anna.  They were fun and gave us all a bunch of laughs….at ourselves doing them. 

Our exchange, for those who wanted to participate, was a quote chosen by the participants but then assigned to another guild member to write and add any artwork they decided on.  It was so inspiring, that we wanted to share some of the artwork.     ---submitted by Judy

 Michiana Calligraphy Guild (4/22/2026)

Michiana Calligraphy Guild hosted this past March 7^th,  instructor Sherrie Lovler, for her workshop called Wabi-Sabi.  We enjoyed her  artistic blend of Japanese magic that honors and sees beauty in things that are worn, weathered, imperfect and impermanent.   She encouraged us to this creative process of letting the universe flow through us, into our hands holding the brush or tool, and to be one with our own energy to make timeless Enso (timeless circles) and other designs.  She demonstrated elements of design using sumi ink, walnut ink, watercolor paint mixes, embellishments of red or golds, adding pan pastels shading and the importance of “white space”. . 

It was a wonderful afternoon filled with creativity and friendship.  We all learned to let things go and just inspire each other.  The prospect of enjoying more of this process and expanding our Qi (Chi), also know as our life force, vitality and energy is very intriguing. We would recommend Sherrie Lovler’s classes to anyone interested in expanding their thought process in their artwork.

MICHIANA CALLIGRAPHY GUILD

January 25, 2026

It has been a long time since we have shared a post.  Way too long, but please know that we have been very busy!  Our MCG Guild members have many more talents than just hand lettering.  Below is just a few of the photos collected from members’ December activities.  We love sending handmade Christmas cards and gifts to each other. LL sent us a picture of many of the handmade Christmas cards she received and displayed on her refrigerator. 

The January meeting was a time for us to share our holiday designs, crafts and catchup. We also learned how to make a winding rope for hanging future mobiles, cranes, ornaments or treasures.  Thank you to our Guild President, Renee! 

We are currently in the process of planning out our next few months.  They will include a workshop with Sherri Lovler called, "Wabi Sabi".  You can find more information on that on Instagram Account at mi_incalligraphyguild.  That's all for now!
