A MESSAGE FROM THE GUILD PRESIDENT
Things finally seem to be opening up and you can even go out without a mask some places. The virus is not gone and we must continue to be cautious. I think it's important to get vaccinated. The rest of the world continues to struggle with the virus, mainly because of the lack of availability of the vaccine.
We have continued with Zoom for our meetings and personally I find them very enjoyable. We are looking into having an in-person meeting for September at the church. Masks will be required for those who have not been vaccinated. We have talked about continuing the Zoom meetings as well, mid month and during the winter months. Everyone seems to be happy about that. There are a lot of benefits to having the meetings using Zoom, such as everyone gets a pretty good look at the show and tell items, also if you can't attend the meeting you can watch the recording and not miss anything! Not to mention the advantage during the winter months and to our few long distance members.
I continue to take classes on Zoom but not as many as I was. Over the past 3 months I have taken advanced spencerian with Harvest Crittenden, a couple of drawing classes with Jamie Morin, Celtic Knot with Cheryl Tefft, cookie decorating with Andrea Reno, bone script with Carol Dubosch

Things discussed - August Picnic ( August 7, 2021) Book Exchange. simple book, to get one, you must bring one. As we have done previously wrap the book and please include some of your own art work and/or calligraphy.
Book Project foe Maureen's family - We are in the completion stage - Angie West will bind the book and Ginny VanderHey and Pat West will add finishing touches and mail to Maureen's daughter and son.

Ginny's Grilled Pizza
Food processor:
3 1/2 cups of flour
1/2 tsp of salt
Mix together:
1 1/4 cups of warm water
1 package of yeast
2 tablespoons of olive oil
1 teaspoon of sugar
Add wet ingredients to dry in food processor (I'm sure this can be done by hand) you may need to add a bit more flour if the dough is too thick. Put the dough into a bowl that you have added a tablespoon of oil to moisten. Let rise about an hour or so.
For the grill....I cut the dough into six pieces, flatten out and place on a pan sprinkled with corn meal.
We spray the grill with Pam or an Olive Oil spray, put the pieces of dough that have been patted down or rolled out, maybe about 6 inches, onto the grill. When the dough gets a nice grill mark, not dark, turn it over and working quickly, brush lightly with olive oil, put on the tomato sauce, cheese and whatever toppings you like. Let grill till chesses is a bit melted or the dough is crispy and has a grill mark on the bottom. If it starts to get too cooked transfer to the top shelf on the grill so you don't burn them. Enjoy!

POLICY FOR MCG
Our workshops seem to have people sign up and then decide not to attend. We have been very generous in returning monies paid for the workshop if someone decides not to attend at the last minute, but we are going to have a change in this policy. There will be a nominal fee if you drop out of a workshop. If there would be an emergency, for instance the birth of a grandchild, illness, etc., then the board will take this under advisement to decide on a course of action regarding a refund. Also, if the workshop is filled, and there is someone to take your place, that would also qualify for a refund. So please, if you want to sign up foe the workshop, make sure that you put that date on your calendar as a commitment. We have a small calligraphy group and we struggle to fill workshops at times. We need all of you to attend as many as possible so that we can continue to have quality instructors.

ANNUAL MEMBERSHIP
Annual dues of $15 are due at the July meeting. Our annual dues have not changed in many years and are put to good use for supplies for our Make It/Take It at meetings and our annual raffle in August, and in December our donation to local charities. Please remember to bring your dues to the July meeting or send to Laurie Heyden, our treasurer at 18292 Courtland Dr., South Bend, Indiana 46637.
