APRIL 2022 SCRIBNOTE

 APRIL 1, 2022

A MESSAGE FROM THE GUILD PRESIDENT

Things are looking up regarding Covid, though it is still very much out there. Still reporting new cases but we seem to have it under better control. We must continue to use our common sense when going out in public.

I have once again indulged myself in taking many (to many?) classes. Some of you may think I never stopped, but I did slow way down. I have taken quite a few one time only classes and do enjoy those, as they usually only involve a couple of hours and you are done. I will write more about my classes at a future date - too busy to share now

At our April 9, 2022 we will discuss perhaps meeting in person once again. Many of our members enjoy the ability to Zoom and we will try to incorporate this into our general meetings.

January 8, 2022 Meeting

Quote: "Nothing in life is to be feared, it is only to be understood. Now is the time to understand more so that we may fear less." - Marie Curie

15 members attended this Zoom meeting.

Amity Parks in person workshop has been canceled due to the uncertainty of Covid. We felt it was unfair to expect Amity to travel and expose herself unduly to Covid and also unfair to hold on to member money any longer. We still hope to have Amity at some time in the future.

I once again did a demo on the mandalas that I demo'ed last September (at an in-person meeting) and this time we were able to include some of our Michigan members that could not attend that meeting. I used the Helix #12091 6" 360 degree protractor to make the circles. Everyone seemed to enjoy this demo.

Show and Tell which is always a fun time for all and full of inspiration.

March 5, 2022 Meeting

Quote: "It is the artists business to create sunshine when the sun fails." Romain Rolland (Thanks to Ginny for this quote)

13 Members present for this Zoom Meeting

Discussion: Back by popular demand we will hold our "2nd Annual Members Favorite Tools" for our April Meeting. We are requesting that you send a photo and please include a link if you purchased online. Include style number and store if purchased locally. Please send a few days prior to our April 9th Meeting so that I can get the power point ready Please limit to 2 tools.

Unplanned Demo's - I demo'd making a simple envelope out of a 9 x 12 piece of paper that I learned from a class I took with Anne Elser and then demo'd "The double seed of life" that I learned from Clarissa Grandi in a class I took from her. I had been doing "the seed of life" previously, but didn't know that was what it was called! This time I demonstrated with a Staedtler, Mars 552 compass. This compass is amazing and you can even use it with regular pens and markers!

Show and Tell - Tonia supplied us with some delightful pictures from a calendar the guild made in 1998! Wonderful nostalgia! And as always much inspiration from our members!

UPCOMING WORKSHOPS

To Be Determined

P.O. BOX IN SOUTH BEND

Due to a lack of much mail at our Post Office box in South Bend we have suspended any mail sent to that address. If you have anything to send to the Michiana Calligraphy Guild, please send to Laurie Heyden, 18292 Courtland Dr., South Bend, Indiana 46637 or Renee Tuveson, 928 Finch Dr., South Bend, Indiana 46614.

POLICY FOR MCG

Our workshops seem to have people sign up and then decide not to attend. We have been very generous in returning monies paid for the workshop if someone decides not to attend at the last minute, but we are going to have a change in this policy. There will be a nominal fee if you drop out of a workshop. If there would be an emergency, for instance the birth of a grandchild, illness, etc., then the board will take this under advisement to decide on a course of action regarding a refund. Also, if the workshop is filled, and there is someone to take your place, that would also qualify for a refund. So please, if you want to sign up foe the workshop, make sure that you put that date on your calendar as a commitment. We have a small calligraphy group and we struggle to fill workshops at times. We need all of you to attend as many as possible so that we can continue to have quality instructors.

ARE YOU ON FACEBOOK?

If so, look up your favorite calligraphers, because they are on Facebook also. I like to look at Barbara Blose, Reggie Ezell, Julian Waters, John Stevens, Rachel Yallop, Pendragons, Capital City Scribes, Yukimi Annand, etc.. There are lots of beautiful
